Dashboard Confessional

Greene Street Stage

Chris Carrabba had written over a dozen new songs when he uncovered "We Fight," the opening track on Crooked Shadows, Dashboard Confessional's seventh album. It contains a dynamic force, a surging energy, that resonates throughout the album, and reflects back on everything Dashboard Confessional has achieved in the past two decades. At first "We Fight" was simple in its intent, written about the Florida music scene where Chris grew up. It was a place where everyone was accepted and no one was judged, a island of inclusivity worth defending. Over the years, Dashboard Confessional has made it enviable to bare your soul in a song and to be unashamed of any feelings that may arrive. Chris and his fellow musicians have found a new perspective on the world in these songs, one that only comes with more life experience, but those exposed emotions remain.

The group's debut single "broken" caught fire as "the longest running #1 track on Alternative Radio thus far in 2018" with six weeks at the top. In under a year, it amassed 25 million total global streams.

Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba ecstatically explore the spiritual songs, stories, and rhythms of Senegal’s millennia-old Mandé culture. Indeed, Cissokho comes from a long line of prominent griots, or storytellers, who are entrusted to maintain a West African village’s most important ceremonial affairs through song. But he is much more than a preservationist. Cissokho and his band, Kaira Ba, effortlessly integrate the traditional sounds of the kora with a modern rush of electric guitar and an exuberant rhythm section. Together, Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba sustain one of West Africa’s most expressive legacies with their own energetic interpretations.

With anthemic choruses, lush 3 part harmonies, and rhythms rooted just as deeply in Motown as in rock ’n’ roll of the past and present, The High Divers create songs that nod to the classics, while carving out a sonic space all their own. A fixture of the South Carolina music scene, the band is known for its charismatic on-stage swagger and its ability to get the crowd completely and unabashedly involved. Each member of the band grew up on Hilton Head Island, before relocating to Charleston to officially form The High Divers, where they began immediately recording their debut album, “Riverlust”. The band is currently writing new songs before heading to Nashville to record their third album, which has a tentative release schedule of late Spring, 2019. A full US tour will follow.

Hailing from Memphis, The Band Camino has quickly ascended the indie rock ranks with their memorable melodies and modern sound. Songs like “My Thoughts On You” have appeared on dozens of playlists on Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. “Berenstein” was singled out by Taylor Swift when she placed it on her “Songs Taylor Loves” playlist. The band’s single “Daphne Blue” harkens back to the era of massive guitar tones and is a glimpse into the next step of The Band Camino’s modern rock sound. They were supporting Ben Rector on the Magic! tour in the fall of 2018.

What began as a side project for Columbia singer/songwriter Jade Blocker quickly became a full-fledged band after a single performance. The versatile trio of Donovan Amason (guitar), Garrick Turner (bass), and Jade Blocker (vocals/drums) effortlessly move between pop, rock, and R&B without any pretense. The songs are familiar without sounding contrived and the catchy melodies combined with Jade’s unmistakable voice will have you humming along for days afterwards.

With a good mixture of quirky and serious, The Post-Timey String Band produce an interesting blend of folk, ragtime, and blues that hails influence from the old and the new. Kelley creates the picture with her vocals/kazoo/mouth trumpet and keeps everything in beat with her rhythm guitar, uke, and banjo while Sean colors everything in with an assortment of stringed instruments.

Sometimes you need a friend to laugh with and sometimes you need a friend to cry with. The two-man band Sinners & Saints, from Charlotte, NC, fits the bill for both. Whether they’re crooning about heartbreak or tearing it up with joyful abandon, you’ll feel happier for having listened. Perry Fowler and Mark Baran infuse their acoustic, country-tinged tunes with compelling harmonies and foot-powered percussion on repurposed drums from an abandoned kit.

The musical union between Kelley and Kristen began in 2012 when the two musicians joined forces as part of the female folk trio The Prairie Willows. Their sound integrated 3-part harmonies, old-time fiddle, and sorrowful songwriting. Their music quickly evolved into their now spirited multi-instrumental folk and Americana sound with a soulful twang, featuring an assortment of talented back-up musicians, and, of course, the two leading ladies. The uniting of these strong female vocals with guitar, fiddle and varying other instrumentation gives The Boomtown Waifs a flavor of ruckus and delight that audiences love to be a part of.

Inspired by the sounds of the burgeoning Americana movement -- bands like Whiskeytown and Wilco, and later the so-called “Outlaw” country clan -- indelible icons like Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Kris Kristofferson, John Prine and Townes Van Zandt -- George later immersed himself in probing the roots of the rock and country crossover, exploring the Southern California singer/songwriter scene by way of Jackson Browne, the Eagles and J.D. Souther. But Before starting the band, George took a brief hiatus in New York City to work with producer Damien Dash, but the cold New York winter, lack of opportunity and the steep cost of living prompted him to return home less than five months later. It proved to be a good decision, and with three releases under their belt -- the Gunshy EP (their 2014 debut), Zac Brown Sessions (a prize bestowed as the result of winning a songwriting contest in 2013), and Live From Sky City (recorded in concert in Augusta, Georgia) -- and their latest full-length album, Borrowed Trouble, the Kenny George Band is poised to garner new admirers and consolidate an already ample following all at the same time.
